The Rossmoor Storytellers Club meeting will be on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 2:00pm at Creekside Clubhouse in the Fairway room.
Not only are storytellers free to choose a theme for the story, but they are also asked to bring all types of stories. The club shares a lot of true, personal stories but members are asked to share folk tales, myths, or tall tales. Liar’s Club Stories, fractured fairy tales, scary stories, poetry, recitations and songs are also invited.
To showcase some of these ingredients, Contra Costa Talespinner Lance McVay has been invited to be the featured teller.
Lance McVay hails from the Redwood Mountains of Santa Cruz, California, and now lives in Hayward with his wife, daughter, and twin sons. A high school teacher for 30 years, he has also spent decades as a writer and storyteller, crafting original tales of treachery, ghosts, deceit, and vengeance — all set to the rhyme and rhythm of classic verse. Equal parts haunting and playful, his stories have entertained audiences since 1991.
Lance has been a regular member of the Contra Costa Talespinners and the Hayward Storytellers for many years. He tells stories in the SAC (Storytellers Association of California) genre series, Six Feet Apart Productions and was a guest at St. John’s Storytelling in Newfoundland.
He is the author of two books, Lighthouse Tales and Lance McVay’s Tales of Treachery & Terror, both available on Amazon, at Books on B. in Hayward, and The Bookshop Santa Cruz. He will bring some books to sell at the meeting. Learn more at www.LighthouseTales.com
New member, Trang Chau, told her first story at the July meeting. After her husband’s passing at 40 she had to learn from scratch to become an independent and confidant adult with the household finances and traveling.
Another member, Ken Fisher, told his first story “Kenny escapes From the Moonies”.
In 1972 a meeting at a coffee shop with a pretty woman lead him to an adventure with Moonies.
Clement Binnings told a story of very good luck; two experiences of almost dying. One was drowning as a child, and one was a heart issue on the golf course.
The club is ready to take signups for August. Please contact Claire Castell at RossmoorStorytellers@gmail.com to get on the line-up. Stories should be 10 minutes or less. Please practice your story and time it to ensure it is within guidelines.

Members who prefer to listen are always welcome—no one is required to tell a story.
The club meets every 4th Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairway Room at Creekside Clubhouse.
